It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt sadness that we, the PROCMURA Family across Africa and beyond, accept the passing of Reverend Joseph Diouf, one of PROCMURA’s pioneering grassroots workers and a devoted advocate of PROCMURA’s work in Senegal and Francophone West Africa.
Rev. Diouf served PROCMURA with unwavering commitment, initially as the Area Adviser in Senegal and later as the Regional Coordinator for Francophone West Africa. In both roles, he worked tirelessly to promote PROCMURA’s vision, values, and objectives. His steadfast dedication to building constructive and sustainable Christian-Muslim relations, promoting peaceful coexistence among different faith communities, advocating for religious freedom, and capacity building among church leaders left a lasting impact on PROCMURA’s work at various levels, including the grassroots.
During his tenure as Secretary General of the Lutheran Church of Senegal and as Director of the Department of Training and Theology, Rev. Diouf remained a passionate supporter of PROCMURA’s mission. His efforts not only enhanced PROCMURA’s presence but also established a solid foundation for leaders who came after him.
Since 1987, Rev. Diouf faithfully served as a pastor in the Lutheran Church of Senegal. His collaboration with PROCMURA led to the creation and development of several Area Committees across Francophone West Africa. His visionary leadership helped shape the organisation’s work in the region and created a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
Rev. Diouf’s work significantly advanced PROCMURA’s goal of fostering understanding and collaboration among people of diverse religious backgrounds, especially in Christian-Muslim relations, as a pathway to peace and sustainable development in the region. His dedication to this cause in Senegal and across Francophone West Africa made a profound and lasting difference that continues to be felt to this day. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, particularly his two sons, alongside his friends and colleagues.
May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy serve as a beacon of hope for harmony and peace in Senegal, Francophone West Africa, and the wider continent. As the PROCMURA family, we are committed to honouring Reverend Joseph Diouf’s memory by continuing the vital work he started. We will nurture the seeds he planted as we strive for peace, unity, and collaboration between Christians and Muslims across Africa in pursuit of sustainable development.
MAY THE SOUL OF THIS FAITHFUL DEPARTED SERVANT OF GOD REST IN ETERNAL PEACE.
The PROMURA Family.
