Who We Are

We, the Programme for Christian-Muslim Relations in Africa (PROCMURA), are a Pan-African Christian organization founded in 1959, focused on promoting good relations between Christian and Muslim communities across Africa. For over 65 years, we have been working in a religiously pluralistic environment in Africa, empowering the Church to effectively witness the Gospel in an interfaith environment and promoting constructive Christian-Muslim relations across the continent for peace and peaceful coexistence. 

We are currently established in 20 countries spread across East, West, Central, and Southern Africa. The journey to where we are today has numerous lessons, challenges and, more importantly, success stories that have come as a result of our dedicated network of grassroots personnel and continued commitment of our partners from across the world.

PROCMURA exists to build cohesive and inclusive communities across Africa for sustianable peace and peaceful coexistence.

Our Commitment

Our work is rooted in the belief that communities can live together in dignity, mutual respect and shared responsibility. Through education, advocacy, youth engagement, peacebuilding and grassroots programmes, PROCMURA supports communities to proactively respond to conflict, defend religious freedom and promote peace for sustainable development.

How We Work

• We empower the Church in Africa in the area of Christian-Muslim relations for effective witness of the Gospel in an interfaith environment
• We work with various stakeholders in supporting peacebuilding, conflict resolution and reconciliation in communities affected by tension and conflict
• We empower vulnerable women and young people with practical skills through the PROCMURA Empowerment Centres for their economic transformation. The Centres are also hubs for promoting peaceful coexistence at the community level. 
• We promote religious freedom, justice, human dignity and mutual respect among people of different religious backgrounds.
