Mid-Year Report 2016
The report documents developments at PROCMURA’s Central and Regional Offices alongside core and designated programmes. It highlights institutional expansion, leadership transition, capacity strengthening for church leaders, women and youth, and a major regional consultation for Christian and Muslim religious leaders in the Greater Sahel.
Guided by its Strategic Plan, PROCMURA responded to emerging challenges while strengthening the structures and relationships needed for constructive Christian-Muslim engagement across Africa.

Selected Mid-Year Highlights
Six-Country Consultation
Christian and Muslim religious leaders participated from Senegal, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
More Than 30 Religious Leaders
Over 30 men, women and youth leaders joined the Greater Sahel consultation on conflict prevention and the promotion of peace.
Two Regional Offices
PROCMURA advanced regional offices for Francophone West Africa in Lomé and Anglophone West Africa in Kaduna.
Programme and Institutional Milestones
- The PROCMURA Office Complex, including meeting, conference and restaurant facilities, became operational.
- A new General Adviser was appointed to succeed the outgoing General Adviser.
- A full-time Regional Coordinator was appointed for Francophone West Africa, with responsibilities extending into Central Africa.
- PROCMURA established an Anglophone West Africa Regional Office and Nigeria Coordinating Office in Kaduna.
- Church leaders in Burkina Faso and Tanzania examined religious radicalisation and violent extremism.
- Youth leaders in Tanzania explored constructive Christian-Muslim engagement and positive religious tolerance.
- Women church leaders in Tanzania called for expanded participation in programmes addressing radicalisation and peace.
- Government, traditional, Christian and Muslim leaders in Burkina Faso contributed to preparations for the Greater Sahel consultation.
Regional Cooperation for Peace
The Greater Sahel consultation demonstrated PROCMURA’s approach of consulting government, traditional authorities, churches and Muslim leadership before convening regional action. Participants considered conflict prevention, peace, security and the need for Christian and Muslim communities to cooperate against violent extremism.
