Marking the International Day of the Girl Child
Under the global theme My Voice, Our Equal Future, PROCMURA worked with its constituencies in Kenya, Sierra Leone and Rwanda to create platforms where girls could speak about the barriers affecting their safety, health, education and full participation in society.
PROCMURA’s activities connected the protection and empowerment of girls with justice, peace and the holistic development of families and communities.

Selected Highlights
Kenya
PROCMURA, FECCLAHA and CAPA joined government, education and religious leaders in Isiolo. About 200 girls received reusable sanitary and health kits designed to support their wellbeing and school participation.
Sierra Leone
Girls from Kenema, Waterloo and Magburaka discussed teenage pregnancy, violence, child labour and harmful cultural practices with government ministries and community stakeholders.
Rwanda
A workshop equipped 100 girls with knowledge on sexuality, menstrual health, recognising harassment and peer education. Participants also received hygiene kits.
Faith Leaders Supporting Girls
- Christian and Muslim leaders condemned discrimination, violence and practices that diminish the dignity of girls.
- Religious leaders committed to using their moral authority to promote safe spaces and protect girls’ rights.
- Girls were placed at the centre of the activities through poems, testimonies, discussions and peer learning.
- The initiatives aligned girls’ wellbeing with gender equality, human rights, the Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
